Herbert E. Sommerfeldt, 85, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born Jan. 7, 1924, in Caseyville, Ill.,
died on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Eden Village Nursing Home, Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Herbert was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the St. Louis Carpenters
Union, and an avid Cardinals Baseball fan who loved fishing and bowling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Lou, nee Hartwell, Sommerfeldt,
whom he married on June 6, 1953, in Collinsville, Ill.

His parents, John and Edna, nee Worst, Sommerfeldt; brothers, Elbert Sommerfeldt and
Wilton Sommerfeldt; and five sisters, Virginia Sommerfeldt, Gladys Hess, Velma Sommerfeldt,
Arvella O'Hanahan and Dorothy Sommerfeldt. Surviving are his children, Edward Ross
Sommerfeldt, Sherry Lynn (Michael) Juehne, and Patricia Ann (Michael) Ryan; grandchildren,
Lindsay N. Mecklenburg, Michael P. Ryan and Presley S. Ryan; and one sister, Eunice
Sommerfeldt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Lake View Funeral
Home with the Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Interment will be held privately in Lake View
Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
