Karen Kathleen Sommerfeldt, 70, of Readlyn, died Friday, May 21, at the Tripoli Nursing Home
after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Karen was born June 18, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Frank and Elsie (Anklam) Aiken.
She graduated from high school in 1957 at Fall Creek, Wis.

On April 23, 1960, she was united in marriage to Marvin Sommerfeldt at Epiphany Lutheran Church
in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She worked at various companies in Wisconsin and Iowa before working for
the Wapsie Valley School District for 27 years as the school board secretary and as a custodian until
her retirement in 2001.

Karen was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn.

She is survived by her husband Marvin; three sons, Kenneth (Sherry) Sommerfeldt of Readlyn,
Timothy (Vicki) Sommerfeldt of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, Paul Sommerfeldt of Readlyn; nine grand-
children; brother, Vernon (Elmira) Aiken; sister, Lorraine (John) Schilling.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Leslie Aiken.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, at Zion Lutheran Church with burial
in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at the Kaiser-Corson
Funeral Home in Readlyn and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday.
Memorials may be directed to the church and online condolences may be left for the family at
Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Readlyn is in charge of arrangements.
